Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS UK)

Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS UK) was established in 1966 as part of the global Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh movement, which began in Kenya in the 1940s when volunteer members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh started community branches for Hindus living outside India. Operating as a registered national charity (Charity Number 267309), HSS UK has grown from its early shakhas in Birmingham and Bradford to become one of the largest Hindu community organisations in the United Kingdom, now running over 117 activity centres across the country and serving tens of thousands of volunteers and families. HSS UK offers structured weekly programmes designed for the whole family, combining sports, yoga, Hindu teachings, and skills development to foster holistic growth. The organisation's activities are built around three core pillars: Sanskaar (the cultivation of virtuous actions and positive qualities), Sewa (selfless service performed for the benefit of humanity without expectation of reward), and Sangathan (bringing together the diverse Hindu community of faith systems, languages, and traditions in collective unity). Through regular shakha sessions, educational camps including the annual Sangh Shiksha Varg, cultural celebrations of Hindu festivals, and community service initiatives, HSS UK provides a comprehensive platform for personal development, cultural preservation, and civic engagement. For Indian expat families and the wider Hindu community across the United Kingdom, HSS UK serves as a vital bridge between heritage and modern British life, creating spaces where children and adults alike can connect with their cultural roots while developing as confident, contributing global citizens. The organisation publishes regular communications including Sangh Mail and Sangh Sandesh to keep the community connected, and actively participates in interfaith dialogue, remembrance observances, and charitable initiatives that strengthen social cohesion. Whether you are new to the UK or a long-established resident, HSS UK offers a welcoming community where Hindu values are lived, celebrated, and passed to the next generation — truly a home away from home for thousands of families nationwide.
