London Sri Mahalakshmi Temple was established in 1989 by the Lakshmi Narayana Trust and consecrated in 1990, becoming a cornerstone of Hindu worship in East London. Built under the supervision of Padmashri Silpakalamani Muthiah Sthapathi, the temple showcases authentic Dravidian architecture with its distinctive royal tower and traditional structures. Located in the Manor Park area of East Ham, it has served as a spiritual home for the Tamil Hindu community for over three decades. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi, the deity of wealth, prosperity, and well-being, and houses several other deities for comprehensive Hindu worship. Daily poojas are conducted in the morning and evening sessions, with special ceremonies including Rudhra Abhisegam every Monday, Sri Anjaneyar Abhisegam every Thursday, and Sathyanarayana Pooja on the first Sunday and every Pournami day. The temple also organizes Sri Gayathri Durga Pooja on the third Sunday of each month, along with various homams and abhisegams throughout the year. Maha Prasadam is served twice daily at 12:15 PM and 8:00 PM. As a vital cultural and spiritual landmark for Indian expatriates in London, the temple celebrates major Hindu festivals including Ugadhi, Prathosham, and Karadaiyan Nonbu with great devotion. It provides a sacred space for worship, meditation, and community gatherings while promoting Hindu values and South Indian cultural heritage in the United Kingdom. The temple welcomes devotees throughout the week with extended hours on weekends and serves as a bridge connecting the expatriate community to their religious roots and traditions.
