Sri Sithivinayagar Temple

Sri Sithivinayagar Temple in Hamm, Germany, holds a special place in European Hindu history as the home of the largest Ganesha murti on the continent. Consecrated on June 10-12, 1994, through elaborate kumbhabishekam rituals performed by sixteen Sri Lankan Sivacharyas, the temple houses a magnificent three-foot tall, 1,100-pound Siddhi Vinayaga murti exquisitely carved in Mahabalipuram, South India. The sacred idol arrived in Hamburg Harbor on March 1, 1994, and was ceremoniously paraded to Hamm, where it was installed with the blessings of Satguru Subramuniyaswami from Hawaii, who attended as the guest of honor. Located in a converted metal-working warehouse spanning 2,500 square feet, the temple was designed as a small replica of the renowned Nallur temple near Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Beyond the main Ganesha shrine, the temple complex houses additional shrines dedicated to Lord Muruga, Durga, Siva-Parvati, Bhairava, and the navagraha, providing comprehensive spiritual services to devotees. Daily poojas are conducted at 10am and 6pm, with archanai services available from 10am to 12pm and 6pm to 8pm, allowing devotees to participate in traditional Hindu worship practices. The temple serves as a vital spiritual and cultural center for the Tamil and broader Indian community in Germany, creating a sacred space where devotees report experiencing a powerful divine presence reminiscent of temples in their homeland.
