About
Shree Swaminarayan Temple Willesden was established in 1975 when a disused church on Willesden Lane was purchased and transformed into a place of worship. On the auspicious day of Sharad Purnima, 11 October 1975, Acharya Tejendraprasad Pande consecrated the sacred murtis of Swaminarayan, Nara-Narayan Dev, Radha Krishna Dev, Hanuman and Ganesh. Operating under the Nara-Narayan diocese, the temple has served as a spiritual cornerstone for the Hindu community in North West London for nearly five decades, celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2025. The temple offers daily worship services including morning and evening aarti, special poojan ceremonies, and festival celebrations throughout the year. Beyond traditional religious services, the temple provides Gujarati language classes, maintains a library, and organizes youth activities that help preserve cultural heritage among younger generations. The temple hosts spiritual discourses, katha sessions, and devotional music programs that bring families together in faith and fellowship. Special observances like Shivratri, Adhik Maas programs, and seasonal camps provide opportunities for deeper spiritual engagement. Shree Swaminarayan Temple Willesden serves as a vital community hub for Indian expatriates and British Hindus seeking connection to their faith and culture. The temple welcomes thousands of devotees who participate in regular worship, volunteer activities, and community events that strengthen bonds within the congregation. Through its newsletter The Divine Connection and various outreach programs, the temple maintains an active presence in the lives of its members, offering spiritual guidance, cultural continuity, and a sense of belonging to families navigating life in the United Kingdom.
