About
Perth United Malayalee Association, known as PUMA, was established in 2013 by Malayalee families living in Perth and surrounding regions of Western Australia. Born from a shared vision to preserve Kerala's rich cultural heritage while building meaningful connections in a new homeland, PUMA has grown into one of Perth's most respected Indian community organisations. As a registered non-profit, non-political, and non-religious association, PUMA has spent over a decade fostering cultural harmony, social connection, and community wellbeing among Malayalee expats and the broader Indian diaspora across Western Australia. In recognition of its outstanding contributions, PUMA was honoured with the prestigious ISWA Cultural Excellence Award in 2021, selected from over 70 Indian organisations across Perth. PUMA offers a comprehensive range of cultural celebrations, social gatherings, educational programmes, and charitable initiatives that bring the Malayalee community together throughout the year. The association organises flagship cultural festivals including PUMA Fest, traditional seasonal celebrations, performing arts showcases, and family-friendly events that honour Kerala's artistic traditions and values. Beyond cultural programming, PUMA is deeply committed to humanitarian service through initiatives like Little Hearts Big Hope, a fundraising campaign supporting children's cancer treatment that includes innovative community engagement activities. The organisation provides a welcoming platform for Malayalee families to celebrate their heritage, share their traditions with the next generation, and contribute meaningfully to the wider Australian multicultural landscape. For Indian expat families in Perth, PUMA represents far more than a cultural organisation — it is a home away from home where Malayalam language, Kerala cuisine, classical arts, and community values thrive in the heart of Western Australia. Whether you are a long-established resident or newly arrived in Perth, PUMA offers a warm, inclusive space to connect with fellow Malayalees, participate in meaningful cultural activities, and build lasting friendships. The association's commitment to excellence, community impact, and inclusive celebration has made it a role-model organisation among Perth's vibrant Indian community associations, creating a sanctuary where tradition meets belonging for thousands of Western Australian Malayalees.
