About
Gujarati Association of Queensland (GAQ) was established in 1993 as a non-profit incorporated body with a singular vision: to maintain, celebrate, and enhance the rich cultural heritage of Gujarat for the Indian diaspora in Queensland. For over three decades, GAQ has served as the cultural heartbeat for Gujarati families who have made Brisbane and surrounding regions their home, providing a vital link to the traditions, values, and language of Gujarat while fostering a strong sense of community in Australia. What began as a small gathering of families has grown into a thriving organisation representing more than 1,000 Gujarati households across the state. GAQ offers a comprehensive range of cultural, educational, and community programmes designed to keep Gujarati heritage alive across generations. The association organises vibrant celebrations of major Gujarati and Indian festivals including Navratri, Uttarayan, Diwali, and Holi, bringing families together through traditional music, dance, food, and worship. Educational initiatives include Gujarati language classes for children and youth, cultural workshops that teach traditional arts and crafts, and programmes that instil the values and rich history of Gujarat in younger generations. GAQ also facilitates social gatherings, networking events, and community support services that help new arrivals settle into life in Queensland while maintaining their cultural identity. For Gujarati families living in Brisbane and across Queensland, GAQ is far more than a cultural organisation — it is a home away from home, a place where the warmth of Gujarati hospitality meets the multicultural spirit of Australia. The association creates a welcoming space where members can speak their mother tongue, share home-cooked Gujarati cuisine, celebrate their festivals with authenticity, and pass on their heritage to Australian-born children. Whether you are a long-established resident or a newcomer to Queensland, GAQ offers a supportive community network that honours tradition while embracing the opportunities of life in Australia, ensuring that the essence of Gujarat thrives in the heart of Brisbane.
